Privacy Policy

Last updated October 8, 2026

This policy explains what Fridge Sleuth collects, who sees it, and how long it lasts. It is not legal advice. The Terms of Service cover how you may use the app.

What we collect

  • Account: email, password hash or Google account id, display name, avatar.
  • Your confirmation that you are 18 or older.
  • Fridge photos and optional pantry photos (including photos you take to plan a week), detected ingredients, the list you confirm, generated recipes, and Cookbook saves. Family recipes you type in or import, including the ingredient lists, steps, optional "From" line, and optional photos of a recipe card (front and back) or finished dish. Weekly meal plans, shopping lists, and planner preferences such as leftover lunches, how many dinners you cook, desserts, portion scale, and cuisine themes.
  • Allergies and dislikes you add on Profile. Treat those as health-related.
  • Payment metadata from Stripe: payment ids, status, and amount. We never store raw card numbers.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser user agent, and a session token kept in your browser's session storage.

If you sign in with Google, Google sends us your email, name, and whether the email is verified.

Why we collect it

We use this data to run the scan, confirm ingredients, generate recipes, store family recipes in your Cookbook, plan a week of meals, build a shopping list, provide your subscription, moderate photos, process payments, and support your account. We do not sell personal data. We do not share it for cross-context advertising. A source link you paste with a cookbook recipe is stored with that recipe and is not fetched.

Who we send data to

We do not claim that photos stay only on Fridge Sleuth. These vendors process data to run the service:

  • Anthropic — fridge and pantry images and ingredient lists, to detect foods and write recipes; front and optional back photos of a recipe card, to transcribe family recipes; recipe text you paste, to structure a cookbook recipe.
  • OpenAI — photo moderation (fridge, pantry, avatar, and optional recipe-card or dish photos), and food images via GPT Image 1 Mini.
  • Cloudinary — stored image ids for fridge, pantry, recipe, family-recipe, and avatar photos.
  • Stripe — checkout and payment records.
  • Render — API hosting.
  • Vercel — the website.
  • Supabase — the database.
  • Cloudflare — network security in front of the site.

Data is processed in the United States through these vendors. We may also disclose information if a court or law requires it.

Fridge, pantry, and recipe photos

Photos can accidentally include faces in reflections, medications, mail, or children's things. Avoid that when you can. We use fridge and pantry uploads to generate recipes and weekly meal ideas, and recipe-card (front and optional back) or dish photos to store with your family recipes. We do not use uploads to train Fridge Sleuth's own models.

Retention and delete

Removing a family recipe from Cookbook deletes that recipe. "Delete this scan" hides the scan from Home. Photos and recipes stay. "Delete account" frees your email, unlinks Google, and hides your scans. Photos, recipes, weekly meal plans, and shopping lists still stay unless you deleted the family recipes first. That is a hide, not a full wipe of Cloudinary or recipe rows.

Payment records may be kept for taxes and disputes even after you hide the account. You can update your name, avatar, allergies, dislikes, and planner defaults on Profile.

To ask us to try a harder deletion, email [email protected]. We will tell you what we can actually remove.

Children, security, and changes

Fridge Sleuth is not directed at children. You must be 18 or older. We take reasonable steps to protect accounts. No service is perfectly secure.

We may change this policy. We will post the new version here with an updated date. Questions: [email protected].
